The Omo Valley is one of the most culturally rich tribal regions on the African continent. For generations these tribes have been shielded from the modern world in a place that is still raw, natural, and timeless. However, change is happening quickly in this region, which will soon impact their traditional clothing, body painting and way of life.
We have access to the villages of the Arbore, Karo, Hamar, Mursi, and Dassenech. We will have many opportunities to photograph and filming their daily lives, as well as experience some of their timeless ceremonies.
DAY 1: Arrival in Addis and drive to Arbaminch
Depart from your country, arrival at Bole International airport, meet our company representative and then drive with 4x4 Land cruiser south west of Addis Ababa via Hossana , over viewing the Oromo and the Gurage tribes way of life with their thatched roof circular house surrounded by enset “ false banana” trees. Overlooking lake Abaya and lake chamo , one of the fertile and evergreen place in the country.
DAY 2: Arbaminch
In the morning on a boat sailing on Lake Chamo to see pelicans, hippos and the world's largest crocodiles. Afternoon we go to the village weavers chencha to meet with representatives of the nation Dorze tribes with their way of life. If today is Saturday and you will visit their market.
DAY 3: Arbaminch- Turmi
Morning drive to Turmi. On the way visit the Konso, Tsemay, Erbore tribes. Late afternoon you will visit the hammer village which is one of the famous tribes in the Omo Valley.
DAY 4: Turmi - karo - Turmi
Today leave your lodge late afternoon and then you will visit the beautiful market of the hamer tribes if today is Monday or Tuesday and together with other tribes of the benna, ari and karo. After the market, if you are lucky you will see the bull Jumping ceremony around Turmi. Late afternoon after the market time We're going to Murulle to meet with the tribe Karo, whose members are known for their adorn bodies with which the various patterns and scars. Back to Turmi.
DAY 5: Turmi – Omorate-Turmi
Morning excursion to Omorate, on the banks of the Omo river,to visit the Dassanech people. Afternoon free to relax in the Hammer village of Turmi.
DAY 6: Turmi- Jinka
Moving in Jinka. Along the way, you can see the decorated tribal Benna, Ari and their village If today is Thursday, you will visit one of the best market in the omo Valley at Keyafer. It is a wonderful opportunity meeting many tribes together exchanging goods. Further drive to Jinka .
DAY 7: Jinka – Mursi/Mago park- Jinka- Konso
Moving in national park Mago. Meeting with the Mursi tribe! Women have taken Mursi inserted into the lower lip plate, and the men inflict a scar on the forearm by the number of killed enemies or wild animals. Back to Jinka and further drive to Konso.
DAY 8: Konso -Yabello
In the morning visit the Konso village which is one of the world heritage sites of UNESCO. Enjoy Konso - GargesieNear the village lies a giant cleft, within which many rock formations resembling the outline of their forms in New York. Proceed to Yabello visiting the Borena tribes with their herd of cattle.
DAY 9: Yabello- -Yirgalem
Moring drive to Yargalem on the road watching the original life of the people of Borena, Sidamo, which are mainly engaged in breeding camels and cultivation of coffee. We came to lodge Aregash who hid in the jungle. Do not miss the evenings to come visit the real wild hyenas.
DAY 10: Yirgalem- Addis
Morning drive to Awassa, visit the biggest fish market in the country. Drive up to Mount Tabor for the panoramic view of Awassa town. Then drive to Addis via the Rift Valley over viewing the rift valley lakes of Shalla, Abyata and Langano. After Zeway turn left to Butajira. Further drive to Adadi Mariam cave church that date back to the 13th century and give a good indication of Lalibela rock- hewn churches of the 12th c.Proceed to Addis Ababa attend fare well dinner in the best Ethiopian traditional restaurant, transfer to Bole international airport for the night flight and it is end of the service.
